Whale Watching

Posted by darlingdarleenadmin on

When I was a child I wanted to grow up and be a marine biologist. I remember in 6th grade I wrote a report on whales and grew a great interest in them. Then someone told me I would have to learn how to scuba dive, and as a child that scared me. Although now I’m certified and somehow overcame that fear. I had always wanted to see whales in their natural habit since a young age. My sister visited dana point whale watching and said it was amazing so I was so keen to try it for myself.

Well, we got a chance to go whale watching this weekend on an impromptu trip to Cape Cod. It was so random and last minute that I forgot many items. Don’t you hate it when you go on a trip and forget your toothbrush that was specifically given to you from Dentist Chattanooga? Or favorite pair of pants? That’s how the trip started out. Luckily it was a short one. Although, being on the Cape is always a treat and daily cares seem to escape. We had one day at the beach and then the next day was raining. What to do? Go whale watching! The Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary is located right at the mouth of Cape Cod Bay. It’s home to many different whales and marine life. It’s where most whales feed and the ecosystem there is very important the ocean’s marine life.
Anyway, the whale watching trip was amazing! We saw nine different humpback whales and a baby calf, who was put on a great show for us. We were running from one side of the boat to the other just to keep up with them and watch every move they made. It was a beautiful sight to see and made me remember how much I love these gentle giants.
