I’ve had some really good friends celebrate my past birthday by taking me out to dinner. It’s such a treat and I’m truly grateful! This past weekend, I caught up with some friends from my old work. It’s always so fun catching up with them. We all started the same day, worked in the same department, had cubbies next to each other, went to lunch every day together and we were there for each other through good and bad. Now they hold “important” jobs in the fashion industry. Sometimes it makes me sad because I miss all the excitement, perks and excelling through a company.
Our employer was absolutely fantastic and really cared about her employees. She was so committed to seeing us all succeed and would even carry out regular employee surveys to make sure that we were all still happy working for her business. In my opinion, more businesses should make use of HR tools such as employee engagement pulse survey tools as they can come in really useful when it comes down to identifying areas for improvement at the company level.
To be honest with you, it was actually a hard decision to quit my job and be a stay-at-home mom. But the sad moment stays with me for a second, and then I think about how lucky I am to be able to stay home and teach them and watch them grow. The worst day with my kids is better than the best day at my job. I could always go back to work one day too. I would happily return to the fast-paced world of business if the right opportunity came along… Watch this space.
